Loyal Source is seeking a Radiation Effects and Hardened Components Engineer who will support Missile Defense Agency mission and quality assurance by participating in multi-disciplinary teams conducting quality and mission assurance evaluations and assessments for existing missile defense components and architectures. This positions responsibility will involve analysis of electrical and electronic components and assemblies. The engineer will need to understand the importance of providing timely support to all tasks and will be a motivated in taking initiative to identify and solve problems. The role will act as both an individual contributor and a member of an established team environment as required by the specific needs of each task. Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Perform analysis and assessment of high-reliability radiation hardened electronics
  • Understand the radiation effects on spacecraft in space radiation environments
  • Apply knowledge of radiation hardening technologies to improve reliability of space flight systems
  • Study radiation effects on electronics from single event upsets and total ionizing dose
  • Ensure EEE (electrical, electronic, and electromechanical) parts that are used in manufactured MDA products, are both reliable and effective
  • Research, develop, design, and test electronic components, products, and systems for military, and scientific applications, applying principles and techniques of electrical engineering
  • Research EEE part inherent reliability to determine suitability for applications in high reliability military systems
  • Evaluate and inspect design and manufacturing processes of electronic circuits, components, and integrated systems, completed electrical hardware installations, and observe operations to ensure conformance of design and equipment specifications for complex weapon systems
  • Understand and apply “ Physics of Failure” for EEE part commodities
  • Use knowledge of electrical, component, and reliability engineering with corresponding ability to research, develop, design, test, and conduct routine circuit analyses and electrical circuit performance
  • Gain familiarity with microcircuit and semiconductor designs to include wire-bonding, flip-chip methods, die mounting techniques, ceramic and plastic packaging processes, leadframe attach and interposer applications
  • Formulate, evaluate, and apply component failure mechanisms and physics of failure to understand and identify electrical/electronic components of complex weapon systems conformance to established criteria
  • Apply knowledge of electronic reliability and part application analyses in order to independently identify failures, research screening and qualification test plans, and recommend potential technical solutions of electronic components applications
  • Review the purchase, build and test of EEE (electrical, electronic, and electromechanical) parts in support of space application and high reliability military applications usage
  • Support Failure Review Boards to ensure failure analysis account for part or material defects which draws upon a working knowledge of most common EEE (electrical, electronic, and electromechanical) parts failure modes, and environments that missiles/targets are typically exposed to
  • Conduct multiple Parts Materials and Processes Control Boards to mitigate risks of submitted Non-Standard Parts Requests (NSPARS) and Non-Standard Materials Requests (NSMARS) to ensure the guidelines of the MDA Parts Materials and Processes Mission Assurance Plan (PMAP) are enforced
  • Travel to support various review activities an estimated 5%

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’ s degree in Electrical Engineering, physics or related discipline
  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in radiation hardened hardware development, production, test, and evaluation
  • Obtain an active DoD secret security clearance prior to start
